The Top Ten Reasons Why a Chemistry Department Should Hire Chemistry Education Faculty Members

Abstract. The decision to hire a chemical education faculty member into a Department of Chemistry should be well considered. This paper offers ten reasons, ranging from the pragmatic to the idealistic, why a chemistry department should consider hiring a chemical education group. In addition, several instances when hiring a chemical educator would not have a positive outcome are described.
