Abstract. Some students have the misconception that monitoring the absorbance of a complex at a wavelength where the free ligand also absorbs strongly willdecrease the accuracy of the spectrophotometric method. This article gives the theoretical basis to show that ligand absorption can be corrected by a reagent blank and clarifies the effect of the undesirable chromogenic reagent absorption.
