Abstract. The manuscript proposes a simple and inexpensive experiment, which can be used in an introductory experimental chemistry course. Three different ways of carrying out the experiment are presented so that it can be adapted to the laboratory facilities. The experiment deals with equilibrium and stoichiometry basic concepts applying several fundamental laboratory techniques and simple calculations. The proposed experiment can be performed in a laboratory class lasting from 2 or 4 hours. The experiment was tested in a group of 142 students of General Chemistry from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.
